What is Bearing Liberty?

Updated: Aug 28, 2019

Bearing Liberty is the future of free thinking with an emphasis on liberty.

The Oxford Dictionary describes liberty as "The state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one's way of life, behaviour, or political views." While most of us here working at Bearing Liberty are indeed libertarians, our emphasis far extends past the abolition of a large government. True liberty is ultimately found through knowledge. We are kept in the prison of our own minds. Our doubts, fears, and ignorance breed a slavery far more powerful than any state can impose on us. We must liberate ourselves from the tyranny within.

How does one liberate himself?

This has been a deep philosophical question since ancient Greece. Thus, philosophy is a huge factor in our work. Different schools of thought, different worldview and methods all arrive at separate and distinct answers. Thus, we must travel down these paths individually and explore in depth how each one affects the human soul. For example, the Absurdist position on human liberty and the Judeo-Christian position will take the followers to different worldview and conclusions. It is not the goal of Bearing Liberty to tell you which is right, but instead to lay down the theories and framework for the reader to find the best fit for himself.

The second way the human may find liberty is through the knowledge of his own mind and soul, not in a philosophical context but instead through a psychological path. Psychology is almost as broad and intricate as philosophy, and methods of self betterment are just as wide and broad as the individuals who harness them. Again, we do not wish to simply tell you what you should do, but instead provide you the ideas, systems, and practices that can make your mind a more powerful and capable place. We provide the map, you choose where to go. From Jung to Peterson, we explore the types of mental barriers that enslave us and how we might break free.

The third and final way liberty may be instituted is through the decrease of governmental interference in our personal lives. It is common sense that as government grows, i liberty shrinks. Thus, if liberty has any importance at all, we must first remove those institutions that further hinder our growth and freedom as individuals. We are born with liberty, no institution, government or power can justly remove this right. Through Austrian Economics and social liberalism, we may lay the fondation for a society that promotes the importance of liberty. A society with such an emphasis on libertarianism will create the proper environment for a diverse and productive marketplace of ideas.

Thus, Bearing Liberty exists to equip free thinkers with the materials and framework to promote individual liberty in all walks of life.
