The Hypocrisy of PragerU

Updated: Aug 26, 2019

PragerU has announced that on August 27, 2019, it will be appearing before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in a lawsuit against Google and YouTube over the censorship of PragerU videos on the platform. PragerU, founded by conservative radio host Dennis Prager, produces short educational videos on ideals and history... often know for its misconstrued interpretation on history with a clearly Republican bias. I have often criticized the organization in that it doesn't teach youth the questioning mindset needed in this era of government domination. Many PragerU videos speak somewhat in favor of the free market and deregulation... however this is all falling apart.

PragerU now wants bigger government. Why? Simply because it benefits them. They paint their attempts at a gaining larger government as a crusade against censorship when in reality, it is nothing more than a war against the private sector.

The truth is, they aren't being censored at all. They use Youtube, Facebook, Instagram and twitter just as everyone else does. They aren't limited. Search PragerU and you will find it without a hitch. Even if they were banned from Twitter and the likes, would it still be a First Amendment issue? The answer is no. The first amendment applies specifically to the government, not for private companies. This is the whole idea of private property. The owners can CHOOSE what they want and don't want.

Imagine this scenario.

A group of Pastors decide to create their very own theology centered Social Media platform. They create the code and buy the domain. This program is designed to help Pastors with their own personal problems by connecting with other Pastors. They even let churches do some advertising and the likes. Are they justified in doing that? Any conservative will cheer with an astounding "Yes!" What if, an abortion clinic of an atheist bookstore wanted to advertise or join the platform? Would the platform be justified in deciding that they don't want to allow this? Again, the answer is yes. However, if PragerU succeeds and wins in their court case, specialized Social Media platforms will be obliged by law to be open to everyone. Christian Mingle would be forced to allow gay couples and atheist blogs will be forced to provide advertising for Churches. This completely topples the whole idea of private property. The internet doesn't need to become the new home of Big Brother. Keep it free.

In their attempt to promote the ideas of small government, Dennis Prager is inadvertently widening it's scope. Instead, PragerU has another option. Create their own conservative platform. They can ban all the "Libtards" they want and us libertarians can storm the site and convert everyone.
